Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

By Sheriff Balogun

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of working underground for the re-election of the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun in 2015 election.

According to the party, the game-plan is to weaken PDP for Amosun to have a smooth sail by making it look as if he is performing especially when such praises are coming from the supposed leader of the opposition.

The party, in a statement issued by its chieftain, Chief Kashamu Buruji, said if anyone was being insincere it was Obasanjo, who pretends to be a leader of the PDP in the daytime but in the night is neck-deep in the re-election strategy of Amosun of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), who is his kinsman from Owu Kingdom.

Kashamu, therefore, advised party members to be focused and continue to work for the overall interest of the PDP, “because we know that our God is a God of justice who will not side with the wicked and unjust.”

He urged members of the party to be wary of “gerontocratic politicians masquerading as elder statesmen.”

While reacting to Obasanjo who warned party members against moneybags politicians, Kashamu said the former President was bent on deceiving the people with a view of depriving them of a better future.

He said it was laughable that Obasanjo could denounce those he described as moneybags politicians, adding: “Was it not moneybag politicians that bankrolled his elections in the first and second time?”

He continued: “Was it not the same people he hobnobbed with when it was convenient for him to wrestle the party structure from the immediate past administration in the state? Was it not the same set of people that he used to work for his candidate in the governorship election?”

He added that “Our dear ex-President on the other hand is now the wealthiest former President of Nigeria as evident in his multi-billion dollar Hilltop mansion, Presidential Library and investments in agriculture and financial institutions.”
