Former Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, Thursday declared that the Igbo nation would not settle for any other position apart from the post of the president in 2015, stressing that it is the turn of the Igbos to produce  the country’s president.

He said this at the Prof. David Ijalaiye Annual Lecture tagged: ‘Leadership: Key factor to a Better Nigeria’ at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State.

Kalu who called for a free and fair election in 2015, stated that the era of mounting police and army officers at polling centres during election had gone as Nigerians were prepared to take their destinies in their hands to ensure the emergence of committed leaders who are prepared to serve them.

  • Igbo nation should forget about the presidency until after their house clean up. The are so corrupt that when it comes to money they can do any thin g. Most of the corrupt Justices and Judges are the Igbos. Those Babangida used to annulled 1993 election of Abiola are the Igbos. Senators Nzeribe , Chukwumerijie and the like of Daniel Kanu of the infamous ABN. The current Elections tribunal who gave unpopular jungle decisions are them. Nigeria can not sacrifice their nationhood for the Igbos for now.

  • This is not the time to start talking in public of who the next president of Nigeria should be and where he should come from. This is the time to identify with the incumbent president on how to move Nigeria forward while his first term lasts.

  • Why should the next president be Igbo? how senseless and unintelligent does that sound? What about having an educated, honest and widely exposed Nigerian who would have a far reaching impact in economics, fiscal and health policies? The problem with Nigeria is that we allow poorly educated people to occupy leadership positions. We need intelligent, dynamic , honest and far reaching Nigerians who are exemplary in Their current fields and not a qualification based on ethnicity. What a shame and thus also goes to other Nigerians who think that been hausa, Yoruba, ijaw, ibibio, kanuri, eshan, itshekiri, Fulani, efik, Benin should be a criterion for being president

  • So what is your own in it now, if not to come and start campaigning for Presidency. What did you do for us in Aba or Abia in general. Well Orji you frittered away the goodwill you have in the igbos and yo won't get it back cos we are not fools. You still have a bad case with the EFCC.

  • My Big brother, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, you are making a point, the Igbos have been neglected for so long, since the end of the war, no Igbo man has ever becomes a President for at- least One day or a month. the North has ruled Nigeria for so many years, the West has ruled for eight years and the South is now ruling and this will end in 2014. I think the Igbos are not asking too much if they ask for the seat of President comes 2015. But the Igbos must unite and support One strong candidate for 2015. The Nigeria should see reason for an Igbo man to become President in 2012 expect people thinks that we are not part of Nigeria, in that case I will support the declaration of Biafara. If PDP or any other Strong Party refuse to give the Igbos a chance to rule for atleast One term, then the Igbos should release that they are not needed in Nigeria, GEJ made all the promises during election but no single project has commenced.
