With less than two years to the conduct of the governorship election in Ekiti State, leaders of the party in the state have unanimously adopted Governor Kayode Fayemi, as the candidate for the 2014 governorship election in the state.

The declaration came during a brief get together party hosted by the former governor of the state and leader of the party in the state, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, at his country home in Iyin- Ekti.

The occasion which was initially designed as a social gathering for the leaders of the party, later turned out to be a political summit as party leaders took turns to discuss the future of the party in the state, and suggesting the way forward.

Most people who spoke simultaneously on the occasion to endorse Fayemi for a second term cited various developmental strides of his administration in the state.

The speakers include Adebayo, Senator Tony Adeniyi ( Ekiti South senatorial district), Hon. Ife Arowosoge, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, Hon Dapo Karounwi, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ganiyu owolabi and Chief Ronke Okusanya, among others.

Adebayo said the he abides by the endorsement of the generality of the party men and women who wanted Fayemi for a second term, stressing that the Fayemi-led administration had impacted positively on the lives of the people of Ekiti since assuming office some two years ago.

“The government of Dr kayode Fayemi has done a lot to move the state forward and his developmental strategies and strides are quite laudable. I also think he deserves a second term, just as our people are clamouring,” added Adebayo.
The state Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe, said the testimonies of the leaders of the party and that of the average Ekiti man and woman are enough grounds to endorse Fayemi for a second term.

According to him, “The people have spoken. The leaders of our party have spoken, the people on the streets have spoken also in clear terms, and all they are saying is that the Governor has performed and should be given a second term. I also endorse this position, because I can see the difference that the Fayemi administration has made in the state.”

Also speaking, the Speaker Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, said the state had witnessed a tremendous turn around under Fayemi, adding that his administration has given the people of the state a taste of good governance, hence the need to allow him do a second term, so that he could consolidate the various developmental efforts in the state.

Caretaker Chairman, Ado-Ekiti local government, Mr. Sunday Ibitoye, who spoke on behalf of the 16 council Chairmen, said the state was lucky to have Fayemi at the helms of affairs, adding that his unique administrative style has brought a great deal of development to both the urban and rural areas. Ibitoye cited the Five kilometer road construction by each of the local government councils and the social security scheme as two of the administration’s programmes that have endeared it to the people at the grassroots aside the free education and free health programmes.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Ganiyu Owolabi, Special Adviser to the governor on Legislative Matters, Hon. Dapo Karounwi, and Chief (Mrs) Ronke Okusanya, also endorsed the call, saying no government had touched the lives of the people of Ekiti the way the Fayemi administration has done in the last two years.

While reacting to the development, Fayemi told journalists in an interview, however that he was humbled by the wishes of the party leaders.
He hadded that his administration still had a lot of work to do as he was still at the mid-term of the first term in office.
“One is definitely humbled by this expression of confidence and goodwill by our party men and women.

“We surely have a lot more to do, because we are just at the mid-term. We have a contract with the people, and God willing we shall try to deliver on every single promise we made to the people during the electioneering period,” he said.
