Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw has said that Nigeria, his opponent in Tuesday’s last Group C game, is under more pressure than his side.

Nigeria needs to win in order to stand a chance of making it into the final eight. Having just a point in two matches, the Walya Antelopes seem to have achieved beyond expectations in this competition already.

“There is a lot of pressure on Nigeria because if they don’t win they will be kicked out of the tournament, so they will come out to attack. That might help us in playing our football,” 60 year-old Bishaw said at Monday's press conference.

“If they attack in great number, then maybe we will get space at the back. And using that space we will try to score goals.

“They will have two responsibilities – defending a hundred percent and attacking a hundred percent.

“For us, it is 50/50 – this is our advantage.”

Ethiopia returned to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 31 years and earned a draw against defending champions Zambia in their first game. Bishaw talked about a new breed of players having emerged on the scene.

“We have opened a new chapter for this generation after 31 years. We scored our first goal at the AFCON in 37 years.  We are trying to make our people happy,” he said.

Ethiopia fell to a 4-0 trouncing in the hands of Burkina Faso on Friday in Mbombela. It was a big low following their highly entertaining opening draw with the Chipolopolo.

“We tried to trace our big problems and we believe that we committed some huge mistakes because we missed our chances.

“The only thing that we are trying to do here is to get great experience for our boys. Our players are young,” said Bishaw.

Ethiopia will take on Nigeria in Rustenburg while Burkina Faso face Zambia in Mbombela with all four teams having an opportunity to grab the two quarter final tickets in Group C.
